West Side Elementary welcomes Mr. James Housdan as the leader of our team as our new elementary principal. Mr. Housdan has twenty years in education, the last four being administrative. He is married with three daughters. His youngest is in sixth grade here at West Side.

Parents, please be sure to check your child's district issued email account for the link to order Grab & Go meals. Orders are due by 2:00 each Friday for the following week via the Google form link that has been emailed to your child.
Parents, it might be easiest to forward emails from your child's district email account to your personal email account to ensure you are receiving all needed communication.

Educators, families and community members are invited to participate in an online survey to gather feedback on education funding and other education issues in the state.
Augenblick, Palaich and Associates (APA) is conducting a school finance study for the Arkansas House and Senate Education Committees. The Committees and APA believe that incorporating the perspective of educators and the community in Arkansas is essential to the study, and will be gathering feedback on multiple study areas, including:
What it means for students to be college and career ready when they graduate,
Educational opportunities for students around the state,
How well districts and charter systems in the state can attract and retain staff, and
Education resources and funding in Arkansas, including the state education funding matrix and additional funding for specific student groups.

Mrs. Ashley's preschool class is having fun on one of our new sensory paths at WSE!


Hunter Denison is the new 7th & 8th grade math teacher at WSHS. Hunter is from Fayetteville, AR and graduated with a degree in 7-12 mathematics from Harding University. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking the natural state.

WSHS is happy to welcome Mrs. Lanelda Caple to the 7-12 campus! Mrs. Caple is from Rose Bud and attended Arkansas State in Jonesboro . This is her fourth year as an art teacher, and we are thrilled to have her here at West Side!

Mrs. Layne Knapp is another new face at West Side Elementary. She will be in third grade until Mrs. Rachel returns to the classroom. We are happy to have Mrs. Layne onboard!

The Tennis Match scheduled for September 1 at FFB has been canceled.
The Golf Match scheduled for today has been cancelled due to weather.
Caleb Long is continuing the Long tradition at West Side Elementary. Caleb is the son of our late principal, John Long, and is a West Side High School and Central Baptist College graduate. He has joined the WSE team as the fifth and sixth grade social studies teacher.

Jesse Rawls is another new addition to the West Side High School family. He is the new EAST facilitator for the district. Jesse and his wife have a two year old and are expecting their second child this fall. Jesse loves music; he enjoys writing and playing in his free time.

West Side High school girls are currently ranked #7 in Arkansas high school golf. In addition, they are ranked 225th in the nation in the 2019-2020 final polls! Way to go girls! #watchussoar

West Side High School is happy to welcome Mr. Mark Lewis as the new music teacher. Mr. Lewis has a combined total of 36 years in the music field. While originally from Tennessee, he also taught in Texas before finding his way to Arkansas. He can play several instruments and is looking forward to helping our students reach their potential.

The 2020 yearbooks have arrived! If you pre-ordered a yearbook, we are in the process of circulating those to students. If you are the parent of an online-only student or a senior, you can contact yearbook adviser Joe West at joe.west@westsideeagles.org to arrange for a pickup.
Extra copies are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. They are $35 each. Please make checks payable to West Side School. If sending cash, please send the exact amount.

Another new face at WSE is Mrs. Tabatha Boyd. Tabatha is filling in for Mrs. Tori Hipp in kindergarten until she is able to return to work.

West Side Elementary is proud to welcome Mrs. Whitney Stevens to the team this year! Whitney is a West Side Alumni, and we are thrilled to have her back home teaching first grade!

Athletic Physicals are mandatory for any student participating in High School Athletics. These will be offered free of charge, during school, on Thursday August 27. High School Athletes have been sent home with physical forms. If you have not yet completed a form, you may see Coach Keith brown or the High School Office.
Just a reminder, although water fountains are off limits during this time, there are touchless bottle filling stations throughout campus. In order to stay hydrated, please remember to send a clear water bottle with your child to school each day.
